A blog on the sociology and history of running

Participate in the research

October 31, 2018Neil Baxter

Are you a runner? If so, we need you!

Whether you’re a Sunday jogger, an elite athlete or a practitioner of parkour, we’d love to hear about how and why you run.

Our latest study is the Running Tribes Project. It seeks to build on our previous work, mapping and describing the subcultures that make up running in more detail than ever before. It will involve a short survey and a number online focus groups for those who have the time.

The results will be published in reports and journal articles, and will be made available through this website. We hope they’ll be both interesting to runners and useful to those seeking to understand and increase participation in the sport.

The Running Tribes Project is independent research conducted largely by volunteer researchers. We have limited financial resources, so we rely on the generosity of the running community to take part and spread the word about what we’re doing.

If you would be kind enough to spare five minutes of your time to complete the survey, please drop me an email (n.t.baxter AT warwick.ac.uk), and I’ll be in touch as soon as the survey goes live. Thank you!
